From Ehsan in Amsterdam
hey guys,
amsterdam kicks ass. we arrived on the first day and walked around for hours (which is really hard to do when you've missed a night's sleep and are delerious as a result of). the city is stunning. beautiful buildings are tightly packed throughout the whole city (the brick roads stretch no more than two carriages wide in the downtown/red-light district) which makes it easy to spend all day walking. the coffee shops are pretty cool... especially the ones outside of the red-light district (blues brothers and greenhouse effect). we spend all day in the nicer neighbourhoods in search for grocery stores and museums. at night we head back downtown and get pissed. we spent the first few nights with some irish ladies and then the last few with three danish girls from our hostel (who have offered free housing in brussels). the weed here is strong, the women are beautiful, everyone knows english, europeans love funky shoes, chain smokers in bars takes getting used to, it's really easy to meet people, mmmmm.... fries.
proverb of the day: "it is better to walk a thousand miles than to read a thousand books"
this was told to me by a man who escaped to japan from beijing during the mid 80s because the government of china chose to burn his art and go after him . he moved to usa from japan and sells paintings and has made quite a living for himself... he smokes a shitload of weed and speaks in broken english. he spoke in proverbs... it was quite weird. an unreal artist though.
our plan is to go to germany and meet up with khaleel... i'll keep you posted.
take care,
- ehsan
